Founded in 1950 by Daniel Jarke and Richard Jay, our company occupied 8,000 square feet on the north side of Chicago. Our initial products consisted of press feed tables and subcontracted stampings. One of our founders, Daniel Jarke, was very involved in creating design and construction standards for the industry which lead to the formation of The Rack Manufacturers Institute (RMI) where he was elected as the Institute's second President
We entered the material handling market full time with a line of modular stacking racks for long materials and, by 1957, business had grown to the point where we had to move to a larger facility with 35,000 square feet in Niles Illinois (a Near North suburb of Chicago). Our business has continue to grow as we continued to provide industry with high quality material storage solutions. Along the way we engineered and improved on our product line and, as a result:
In 1999, Jarke Corporation merged with Leggett & Platt, a Fortune 500 company and leader in the manufacturer of engineered products focused on residential and commercial furnishing, industrial materials, aluminum and specialized products. Publicly held Leggett & Platt posted record sales of $3.46 billion for the twelve months ended March 31, 1999. Early in 1999, FORTUNE magazine placed Leggett in the top 100 of 500 companies in three areas of financial performance and in the top 5% of America's Most Admired Companies.
